Thesis: Distillation Simulation Using Physical Homotopies
Distillation problems typically contain hundreds of equations and variables. The equations are both linear (mass balances) and non linear (vapour liquid equilibrium and enthalpy balances). They are coupled and are typically difficult to solve. My thesis investigated new ways of improving convergence of the distillation equations using a mathematical technique known as differential homotopy continuation.
